The Milwaukee Aprilia team got off to a strong start in Free Practice at Laguna Seca for Round 8 of the WorldSBK championship

On the back of their strongest WorldSBK performance in Brno at Round 7, the team looked in good form as Lorenzo Savadori and Eugene Laverty finished the day with an automatic Superpole 2 entry in combined P4 and P5.

With hot weather set for the day the morning FP1 session saw Eugene finish a promising P3 with 1'23.844 and less than 0.5 from the top. Lorenzo initially struggled with set up and took P14 with 1'24.844.

For the afternoon FP2 session Lorenzo found a big chunk of time on his best lap and finished P9 with 1'24.057, while Eugene struggled to improve on his FP2 time and took P6 with a 1'23.893.

In the final FP3 session both riders made big steps forward and showed some rapid pace. Lorenzo found nearly half a second over his fastest lap and ended the session P3 with a 1'23.510 just 0.3 from P1, while Eugene found three tenths to set a 1.23'586 in P4.

The team's efforts on Friday were enough to put both riders straight through to the Superpole 2 pole shootout, where they will be targeting rows one and two ahead of a challenge for the podium in Race 1.

Free Practice 4 at #USWorldSBK takes place at 09:00 local time (GMT -7), ahead of Superpole at 11:00 and Race 1 at 14:00.

Shaun Muir - Team Principal

"Friday has been a continuation of where we left off at Brno which was really positive. With both riders well inside the top six they're both through to Superpole 2 which we've come to expect now.

We're trying to consolidate and improve the race pace, at the moment we have top six pace and to be in the top three we need to find a bit more.

Moving into Saturday we need to work on making the race pace stronger for the riders and making it more comfortable for them. I think it will be an interesting race, and we should be able to start from the front two rows for Race 1."

"Friday was a positive day. It's great to be back at Laguna Seca, it's a difficult track but amazing to ride. P4 overall is a good result and also Eugene is quick, so that is promising.

The bike was quite physical to ride today but getting better, and I want to work more on the race pace. But we will work hard overnight and work to make another step.

My plan for Saturday is to have a strong Superpole and for the race improve on Brno. We were really strong there and I think we can have some good results here."

Eugene Laverty #50 - Aprilia RSV4-RF

FP1: 1.23.844 - P3

FP2: 1'23.893 - P6

FP3: 1'23.586 - P4

Combined result: 1'23.586 - P5
Superpole 2 entry

We made a really good start to the weekend, we were straight into the 1'23 laps in the morning which was really encouraging for all of us.

I couldn't really progress in FP2, but we made a good step in FP3 and put the bike in a good position. We're running strongly in the top five, everybody is on pretty similar lap times so I think it's going to be a close race. The key for us is to maintain a strong pace on Saturday and not go backwards.

For me the podium is always the goal, it's realistic this weekend and I think there is a genuine chance for us to be fighting for second and third."
